Beading

Image
Last week I was inspired by Norma at  http://notesfromnorma.blogspot.ca/   She submitted suns to the CBS Sunday Morning show and they put them on air.  I enjoy watching that show and had been thinking about sending some of my sun images.  So fresh with the inspiration I whipped up this beaded sun.  I have submitted it to CBS and will wait to hear back from them but I understand it can take months. Work in Progress Wednesday

Getting an early start on my bead journal for May.  May is going to be a rather busy month.  The St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Art Festival will be happening May 22-May 26.  I am happy to say that I will have a crazy quilt on display at The Schoolhouse and two small quilts at Homer Watson Gallery.  As always, I will be participating in the show with my guild, Grand Guild of Fibre Artists.  What an amazing, talented and inspiring group of women they are! The time I spend at a wrecking yard is magical to me.  I so enjoy photographing rust and peeling paint.  I find beauty in it.  The texture is so interesting to me. I am linking to https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca

April Bead Journal

Image
My beaded apple is finished.  Going through my bead stash to find just the right beads is fun for me.  I have a beautiful collection of beads and feel very blessed to have so much.  Doing a bead journal a month for the rest of my life may not use it up.  Maybe I should be doing more beading! Okay, I am happier with this six-inch square/sinchie for the guild challenge.  I added a few stitches with metallic thread which you can barely see.  I also added some beads.  Beads make everything better!  Our guild meets next week and I am excited to see what everyone else has done.  It is always so interesting to see people's creativity. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I have added the  Rice Stitch  to my piece.  I used some knitting yarn in the lower left.  I think it looks pretty cool.  I also used pearl cotton and some DMC metallic thread in the others.  I am excited to try  Sharon B's  beyond TAST challenge.  I have an idea as to what I want to do but I haven't decided on the stitch I will use to layer.

Incredible amounts of energy are wasted by chasing what you cannot catch.  Let go of the chase and embrace the unknown.  By releasing the need to control the future, you open yourself up to the magic of the moment where everything is possible.  unknown More rust and pealing paint from junk yard pictured above. Inspired

A number of years ago I inherited some hand embroidered quilt blocks.  I knew I wanted to do something with them but wasn't exactly sure what.  Today I was pondering making some journals for the St. Jacobs Quilt Show.  The Grand Guild of Fibre Artists always has a display/sale there.  I thought that journals with a quilt/fibre focus might sell and I could include some of these pretty pieces in them.  I can part with some of them as there are many. Ayr Library Artist in Residence update

Image
I am approximately half way through my artist in residency with the Ayr Library.  It is going really well.  I have met so many lovely people.  I have visited different libraries in the region and love each one of them.  They are peaceful, beautiful and feel like home.  Pictured above are some of the altered pages created by myself and the community.  They will all be put into an altered book that is being created for this residency.  I plan to create a stitched cover for the book. The next workshop I am teaching is at the Linwood branch of the library.  It is on April 28, 10:30-12:30.  You can register at  www.rwlibrary.ca  or 519-575-4608  The workshops are always fun!

Our six-inch square guild challenge is red this month.  I am not sure if I have taken this far enough.  It seems like more could be done.  My base has two colors of red transfer foil applied to it.  The transfer foil did not transfer as well as expected so I added some red Inktense to cover the bare spots.  I then adhered the red paper kirigami.  I think it needs some hand stitching.  Hopefully, I will find the time before the meeting. Interesting articles

Trying something a bit different today.  No photo.  I have never done a blog post without a picture. I came across some really interesting articles that I want to remember and thought someone else might find them interesting. Handmade sketchbooks  can be found by clicking on that link.  A really talented artist there. 19th-century-embroidered-straightjacket  is very interesting to see.  Stitching is good for the soul and this woman definitely figured that out. The Mozart effect  has been known about for a long time.  I simply need to remember to listen to more Mozart. Just found another interesting article about a Canadian stitcher Amanda McCavour .  Her work has been at a local gallery.  This you woman is going places!  Yay!

Beading

Going through my stash to find the right beads is half the fun for me.  There is not a lot of beading left to do on this one.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

I have been adding a bit of stitch to this funky piece.  I created the cloth with alcohol markers and alcohol.  It is so bright and cheerful and I am looking forward to adding more stitch to this. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I love it when I have time to participate in Take a Stitch Tuesday with  Sharon B .  This week is the Buttonhole Wheel stitch.  I thought it would make perfect grapes to add to my fruit sampler.  I still need to add leaves and a stem.
