I heart Macro

Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do.  Where there's love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong.  Ella Fitzgerald I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca

Slow Stitching

Image
I am calling this stitching done for now.  In a certain way I enjoyed stitching this but mostly I lost interest in it.  I think I need my stitching to be something not just random.  I definitely prefer to fill in a shape or create a mandala.  I am looking forward to starting a different project for November. Fabric Journal

Image
I am still working on trying to make my bead journals more important.  I have added this one to some fabric that I gelli printed.  It is going to be added to a concertina fabric book.  Something more needs to added to this page.  Possibly words, I am not sure at this point. Journal Week #43

Image
This week the prompt was to use inchies so I used some to spell our light and peace.  I used a Lyra  Graphit water-soluable crayon to colour the background.  Man does that pigment move a lot.  It is all on my hands right now just from picking up the page.  Not a fan.  I am not particularly loving this page but not every journal page has to be a winner.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is probably one of the oddest quilts I have ever created.  I created the background with old hymnal pages.  I painted them, adhered transfer foil, added more paint, adhered to fabric and then quilted it.  Then it sat.  I knew it needed a focal point but I wasn't sure what it should be.  Last month I learned of the San Fransisco School of Needlework self-portrait challenge.  I jumped in not really knowing what I would do.  It is a mixed media challenge and that really appealed to me.  Last week I found a paper mask in my stash.  I checked it for size against the background and it seems to work.  I left the mask sitting on the background not sure of how I would attach it.  I landed upon using some vintage lace to attach the mask.  Next, I will be adding hair.  I can't wait to go through my stash to find the right bits and bobs for that! I heart Macro

Image
I am often asked about my abstract macro images.  People want to know what it is.  It is normal for us to want to understand what we are looking at.  Our brain wants to label it.  I am hesitant to explain.  I am more interested to hear what people think it is.  I am also asked about my technique, how did I create it.  Again, I am hesitant to explain.  It is a process I developed on my own and don't particularly want to share it.  In the great world of photography, there may be other artists creating in this way but not to my limited knowledge and I would like to keep it that way. October Bead Journal

Image
Not a lot of stitching done yet but it is a good start.  I wonder if I will be able to get it done by the end of the month.  I am done with rushing and will enjoy the stitching no matter how long it takes.    Silk has such a lovely sheen but it does make it difficult to get the colour right in photos.  This looks grey, in fact, it is a lovely sage green. Journal Prompt #42

Image
The journal prompt this week was to create a page with leaves.  Nina demonstrated creating a page doing leaf rubbings.  Leaf rubbings are great but I didn't want to copy her.  I drew and coloured this leaf and added a watercolour background.  The quote I used says 'How strange that nature does not knock, and yet does not intrude.'  Emily Dickinson

I am just getting started on decorating my Crazy Quilt journal project for October.  I painted the laces to go with this block.  I used my Inktense blocks and am very pleased with the way they worked.Still, lots to do but if I make a concentrated effort it may get done before the end of the month. 'Sinchie' Guild Challenge

Image
Last year the Grand Guild of Fibre artist did a two colour six inch square challenge called 'Sinchies'.  We all really enjoyed it and our display at the end of the year was fabulous.  We decided to do the challenge again this year but with only one colour.  We are allowed to add black or white to the square though.  I am not loving the challenge this year.  One colour just isn't inspiring me.  I like this sinchie better than the one I created last month but it is only okay. Journal Week #41

Image
The challenge this week was to paint with Q-tips.  Fun!  My butterfly turned out a bit wonky but I love this page.  The quote I used says 'Joy comes not through possession or ownership but through a wise and lovely heart.'  Buddha

I treated this crazy quilt block as my bead journal for this month.  I had a lot of fun creating this basket of flowers.  I used beads, buttons, ribbons and lace to make the flowers.  What a happy block! I heart Macro

I find beauty in the most unlikely places.  An auto wrecking yard is a wonderful playground for me and my macro lens.  Rust and peeling paint create wonderful abstract photos.  This photo and the one I posted last Monday were taken at a wrecker not far from here. Making a bead journal more important

Image
I created this quilt top with some lovely batiks but it wasn't anything special.  So it sat unfinished for years.  When a friend suggested I stitch my bead journals to something else to make them larger and therefore more important I thought it was a brilliant idea.  I will have this one completed in no time! Journal Week #40

Image
The prompt this week is collage.  I created the tree with fabric scraps.  I love the way it turned out.  The sky is painted mulberry paper.  The ground is actually green but looks brown in this photo.  It is made from paper that I dyed.  The quote says 'A light wind swept over the corn, and all nature laughed in the sunshine."  Anne Bronte

Another finished quilt, that feels good.  I used some of my own hand dyed fabric for this one.  I added a bead journal which was suggested by a friend.  I had fun going through my stash of buttons to find the right colours to create the edge.  I am pleased with it. #Inktober

Image
I have taken up the Inktober challenge to draw every day in October.  My drawing skills are mediocre.  I have no doubt with time and practice they could improve.  I have no desire to be a highly skilled drawing artist.  Well, that's not true I would love to draw hyper-realistically but I have no interest in putting in the time that is required to do so.  I am not entirely clear why I decided to take up this challenge but here I am.

Slow Stitching

Image
My stitch a day projects have been done monthly up until this point.  When I started stitching this in September I thought I would be finished in one month but no.  I will continue stitching on this for October as well.  I really have no clue where this is going.  My only decision was to use all silk.  Mainly because I was blessed with the gorgeous silk threads from a friend.
