Not quite finished

Image
I have been creating a fabric book based on leaves and trees.  With this page, I have been playing with transfer foil, paint, stencils and masks.  I am starting to like where this is going but there definitely needs something else. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal Prompt #39

Image
The prompt this week was to use three colours.  Pink, purple and blue were my choices.  I wish I wouldn't have put the dragonfly smack dab in the middle, that was a poor choice.  Oh well, not the end of the world.  I decided against putting a quote on this page.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I took a brief break to recuperate from the studio tour.  Now I need to get back on track finishing projects.  I decided to use a quilt block I created in a workshop with Paula Nadelstern.  This quilt block is far from perfect but I still think it is gorgeous.  Mind you, the colour in the photo is off.  In real life is more teal.  I decided it would make an interesting page in my fabric book.  I think I need to add beads to this though.  I may treat it as my bead journal project for October.  Or I may just add a few beads and call it done. Just playing

Image
Life is good.  This year I have had a lot of opportunities with my art and that has caused me to be very focused on getting things done.  It feels really good to finish up projects however I also need time to just muck about.  I created this bit of a landscape with leftover scraps.  What I thought was a few scraps have turned into six journal pages and there is still more to use.  It is great fun to just see what I can do with the bits and pieces.  I am giving myself the freedom to just play with no real purpose other than to use up scraps. Journal Week #38

Image
The prompt this week was abstract using alcohol inks.  I made a happy mess.  I used a sample piece of wallpaper and found the coating on it made it easy to move the inks around.  There is no quote to go with this page.

I am enjoying my slow stitching.  This month I decided I would just let the stitching happen.  I am using silk charmeuse as a base and I am using some beautiful silk threads that were gifted to me by a dear friend.   Love stitching with silk! Beaded Alternating Feather Stitch

Image
Sharon is taking a break from Take a Stitch Tuesday but she is still posting great stitching instructions.  Here is my go at the  Beaded Alternating Feather Stitch .  I love the beaded stitches!

Pushing Forward

Image
Okay, this piece really did need to be the full circle.  I was encouraged to finish it and I am glad that I did.  Well, it still needs to be quilted but the tedious part of stenciling is done.  I put on a good podcast and figured out a better way to stencil with the Gelatos so the time flew past. Journal Prompt #37

Image
This week the prompt was the sea.  The quote I used is by  Anne Morrough Linburg from her book Gift from the Sea.   The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea.   I love being near water.  It is so relaxing to me.   I completely enjoyed creating this page.  I am trying to look past the obvious problems with it and just accept it.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am not sure where I am going with this.  I used metallic Gelatos to stencil this design and then got distracted.  My intention was to stencil this design two more times to make a full circle.  I am leaning towards doing that but I am concerned I won't remember which colors I used.  Plus, it was a bit tedious stenciling all those small openings.  Still, it would look better to have a full circle.  Then my next question is what will I do this?  I guess I could just quilt it or add beads or? Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Stitch 100 is the  Drizzle stitch .  Love it!  I added a bead to the end of mine.  I think they look great.  Beads make everything better.  This is the last Take a Stitch Tuesday for the year but  Sharon B promises to start up again in the new year.  I am so grateful for all that Sharon does for the stitching community.  She is so talented and generous.

Just for Fun

Image
It was time for a break this week.  All year I have been working on projects and finishing quilts for my trunk show.  I have completely enjoyed it.  However, I really need to create with abandon where the results just don't matter.  It is good for my soul to just unleash a creative mess. I came across a small box of fabric scraps that I have been saving for like ten years.  Time to use them up!  They were just too pretty to toss out so I started gluing them into an altered book.  The top one could possibly be a landscape and I was definitely going for a flower in the second one.  They are not great works of art but man did I have fun. Journal Week #36

Image
The journal prompt this week is nature.  This page was quite simple to create.  I used pages from an old hymnal for the background and some flowers I cut from a wallpaper sample book.  I love the old and vintage feel to this page.

Stitch a Day

My August stitch a day project was done completely with silk.  It was a delight to stitch and I think it turned out rather pretty. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/ https://kathysquilts.blogspot.ca
