Take a Stitch Tuesday and 1 Stitch a day

Image
Sharon B  shows us the Fancy Herringbone Stitch this week.  I have not tried this stitch previously and gave it a go, top photo.  However I stopped one step short of actually completing the stitch.  I have a  couple of reasons for that.  First, I like way it looks as is.  Second, the third step is to loop thread through the crosses and I find looping difficult to get right.  Not only that but even if I do get the looping even/correct it can move around after I am finished. The second photo is my January take a stitch a day project.  The goal was to do 31 different flowers.  Not all of the flowers are different but I did learn some new things and I am pleased with this piece.  I had fun doing it.

Playing with kaleidoscopic images again.  So fun, so colorful! I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/

A Play Day

Image
This past Monday I had some friends over to play.  I love my art play dates with my friends!  These ladies are not fibre people but one of them had bought some wool roving and wanted to know how to use it.  I deviced a very simple idea and we created some little masterpieces!  We had so much fun, creating and chatting.  I think I will call my piece  finished and put it in an altered book. Journal week #3

When I first read this quote it struck me as rather negative.  I guess it was the words often and painful that bothered me.  For me not all endings are painful.  Of course, some endings are painful but not that often, at least for me.  I can almost always find the bright side, embrace the change and move on.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My bead journal for January is finished.  I think I was drawn to the image of the candle because I hope I am always a source of light and joy.  It was interesting to stitch on leather as I have never tried that.  It was not as pleasant as stitching on wool or silk. One Year of Stitches

Image
Today Take a Stitch Tuesday has started again.  Unfortunately, the stitch didn't work with my flowers and I didn't have time to do stitch it on something else.  My January flowers are making me so happy!  What a great way to counteract the winter blues!

Some rays of sunshine on a grey day!  I am so grateful that I have a decent camera and a good macro lens.  I am grateful that I can capture some beauty with those tools. I am linking with https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2017/01/skyscrapers-of-manhattan.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca

Jumping Ahead

Image
February is going to be a busy and fun month for me.  Hubby and I are heading to New Zealand for a vacation.  I am super excited about the warm weather there.  I am not excited about the long flight to get there.  Oh well, I will suck it up.  Since I will be away for a few weeks I need to get things done before I go.  This is my six inch block for our guild challenge.  The two colors for February are blue and yellow.  This piece of fabric I created the same way you create paste papers.  I plan to stitch with gold thread and beads. Journal Week #2

Image
Discipline is doing what needs to be done, even if you don't want to do it.  I think that is true.  I feel like I have developed a fair amount of discipline in my life thus far.  That is not to say that I couldn't use more!  Especially when it comes to housework.  I tend to give myself little rewards once I have completed a task I wasn't eager to do.  Time to stitch after cleaning the bathroom is a good reward.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My crazy quilt block is coming along nicely.  I am feeling on top of things.  I was a bit concerned with all the projects I have given myself this year.  Turns out the more I have to do the more I get done.  Deadlines and commitments are my friends. One Year of Stitches

Image
Flowers are so cheerful.  It is a delight for me to stitch a flower each day. It was absolutely brilliant of me to think of doing flowers in January!  There is only fourteen more flowers to be added to this.

Well, this isn't a macro shot but it was found at the wrecking yard where I take a lot of macro photos.  Like I have said before, it is the color and texture that really get me. I am linking with https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Progress on my Bead Journal

Image
The body of the candle is finished.  I plan to do the the flame in gold beads.  These are not typical colors for me.  It is good for me to try something different even if it doesn't make me quite as happy.  I have come to like this even though there was a stage where I did NOT like it at all.  I am glad that I have persisted thus far. Week #1 Journal Prompt

Image
This quote didn't really grab me at first.  However, the more I thought about it the more I liked it.  I like the idea of having power.  I haven't decided on a journal for this year yet so I did this on a separate page.  Possibly I will do all the journal prompts this way and then bind them together at the end of the year.  The mandala was my own design that I colored.  I used Pan Pastels to color the rest of the page.

My stitch a day project is coming along nicely.  I am really enjoying it.  I am trying and learning new things.  That always feels good to me.  This little piece will be full of thirty one flowers by the end of the month. Let the Crazy Quilting begin

Image
Last year I took a break from the Crazy Quilt Journal Project.  I thought a lot about whether I would sign up for it this year.  I decided in the affirmative.  This is my January block.  My plan for the first four months of the year is to incorporate a bead journal project from a previous year.  These four blocks will then be stitched together.  I don't have a plan for the rest of year as yet. Journal prompt #53

Image
1 year = 365 opportunities, not really a quote.  Also, feels like this shouldn't  the last prompt of the year.  Oh well.  I wasn't expecting to have another prompt so had to squeeze this in on the last page of my journal.  It feels good to have that journal completed.  Looking over it I am pleased with all the colorful pages. When I look ahead for 2017 I am excited for the opportunities I have.  And I am grateful, oh so grateful.  I have so much.  I have more than enough supplies for all the projects I have ahead of me.  I am trusting that I will have time for them as well.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My bead journal for January is rather a simple shape.  Until I get a grip on all the creative projects I have given myself this year I will keep things simple.  I do not like feeling overwhelmed.  I am beading on leather this month.  I was gifted some leather last year and wanted to give it a try.  It is a bit tough to stitch through.  Definitely not a favorite but I will do it again at some point. My creative projects this year are: monthly: bead journal, crazy quilt block and fibre guild challenge weekly: Color Me Positive journal prompt daily: A Stitch a Day I hope to learn a lot from all these challenges! A Year of Stitches

Image
Oh, 2017 is going to be full of creativity!  I have signed up to participate in numerous projects.  I have joined a group that is taking a stitch everyday.  I have cut 12 six inch squares to do this stitching upon.  My guild challenge is working on six inch squares and it feels achievable each month so I thought I would do the same for this challenge.  I went through my stash of experiments to find the base into which I will stitch.  The piece above is a clean up cloth.  I have stitched three flowers.  My intention is to stitch 31 flowers for the month of January.

Oh rust and peeling paint.  It is terribly weird that I find beauty in that which is being destroyed?  In truth, I am not concerned if it is weird.  I enjoy it and that is what really matters.
