Dyeing Workshop

Image
I guess I have done more 'art' this week than I thought.  The Grand Guild of Fibre Artists met on Tuesday to dye some fabric.  Top photo is two cotton fat quarters, silk ribbon and rayon seam binding.  Middle photo is all silk, some charmeuse, some dupioni.  The clean up paper towels in the last photo have me the most excited though.  I know, weird.  There is also sari silk and cotton threads in the last photo.  Now, I just need a project that uses these pretties! I am still plugging away at the journal prompts

Image
I am not super impressed with this page but I am impressed that I got it done.  Yay me!  This week has been exceptionally busy for me and not much art is getting made.  A lot of my energy has gone into writing a proposal for an artist in residence.  I am super excited about the proposal and I am hoping and praying that I get it!  All prayers and loving thoughts in this regard are gratefully accepted!

Here is my finished April Bead Journal.  I am rather pleased with the way this one turned out.  Plus I had a lot of fun stitching it! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ http://www.supermomnocape.com/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Here is my Coral stitch as per  Sharon B's  instructions.  This is a simple stitch and I like it a lot.  I didn't do anything very clever with it.  I used a variegated perle cotton.

Simple and lovely to me. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://www.mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/04/sunset-over-city-through-my-lens-nr-39.html

More butterflies

Image
I am having so much fun with my butterflies.  I have some beads and embroidery.  I have also added some heat set crystals to the backs of some of them.  It is possible that the backs will be seen so they need to look good too. Art enable us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time, Thomas Merton.  So true.  I enjoy adding quotes to my journal pages.  I am, however extremely frustrated trying to find a white pen/marker that works properly.

I have been experimenting with chalk pastels on fabric.  I love the way they blend.  A spray fixative sets them and then adding stitch isn't messy.  I have no idea if this is permanent after washing.  I don't care, as I don't plan to wash my art. April Bead Journal so far

Image
I am making good progress on my bead journal for April.  It is getting pretty close to finished.  The turquoise beetle bead in the upper left corner was given to me from a treasured friend.  She travels the world and always brings me back a little something.  I try to honor her thoughtfulness by using said gifts. Wow!  I am kind of proud of myself for sticking with this journal prompt  facebook group.  Maybe because it is just once a week .  I don't know but I am enjoying it.  I colored the clip art butterfly and added the words -  my path is filled with happiness.  I realize it is pretty tough to read in the photo.

I created a bountiful, bevy of butterflies.  I have a clever idea for an altered book and will be incorporating these butterflies into it.  I need to add some stitching to the felt/sheer fabric butterflies.  The butterflies cut from decorated papers might need a little something added to them but most will be fine as they are.  I am having a lot of fun with this. Take a Stitch Tuesday

The Triangular Buttonhole stitch is not one that I use much.  Trying it here on handmade paper it worked alright.  Working it in a circle form I am not so sure about that.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.

Little textile landscapes

Image
I have been creating some small landscapes.  Postcard size actually.  I am planning to submit the idea as a workshop to the Maker's Fair.  The idea has to work for all ages so I figured it is best to keep it fairly simple and no sewing.  It could be fun. Journal page for Colour me Positive

Image
I like this quote.  Once you choose hope anything can happen.  I believe choosing hope is a choice.  I copied this from the  Colour Me Positive  blog. Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation of positive outcomes related to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. As a verb, its definitions include: “expect with confidence” and “to cherish a desire with anticipation”.

Work in Progress Wednesday

When I started this piece I pictured it being mounted on a black background.  However that is not what I will be doing with it.  I don't overly love the way it turned out but I don't hate it.  I put too much work into to not do something with it so I came up with the idea of using it as an altered book cover.  I think it could be a really interesting cover.  Now I have to find the right book for it. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B  shows us the Linked Chain stitch this week.  I know I have done it before but it felt like the first time.  Pretty sure I haven't used it since the last time Sharon showed us how to do it.  That happens a lot actually.  If I don't really love the stitch it gets forgotten about.  Sometimes that happens with the stitches that I really like too!

There is so much beauty in this world.  It is such a delight to seek it out with my camera. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://anenglishgirlrambles2016.blogspot.ca/ http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/04/lunchtime-in-blagaj-through-my-lens-nr-36.html

My happy little 'garden'

Image
Oh my gosh I had fun creating this pop up page in my altered book.  My funky little flowers have been felted, stitched, burned and more.  Truly a mixed media page. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/
