I heart color and texture

Image
Color and texture is what gets my heart pumping!  I know I am not the only one.  It is a lot of fun to meet other photographers that feel the same way.  I am not the only princess that likes prowling around a wrecking yard. February Bead Journal

Image
I am calling this piece Nebula.  I love stitching into my handmade felt.  It is lucious!  My goal for my bead journals this year is to create mixed media pieces.  In that regard I think this was successful. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/# http://www.supermomnocape.com/

Journal page for the week

Image
Ultimately, I don't like the overly busy journal pages that are the trend now.  But sometimes I think my journal pages are just a little too simple and I want to push past that.    This page is a good example of that.  I was ready to stop a couple of days ago but decided nope I will add one more thing.  Then, again I was ready to stop and again I added another element.  I pushed past my comfort zone and am glad that I did.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Detached Chain stitch is really a very versatile stitch.  This time I have decided to just work it into a circle on handmade paper as I have a project going that uses this format.  I would like to use this stitch and its variations more.  Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/2016/02/23/stitch-30-of-take-a-stitch-tuesday-2016/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Pintanglecom+%28pintangle.com%29   for the instructions.

More Intentional blur

Image
This time I have been playing with intentional zoom blur.  I love it and I definitely intend to explore this technique further.  This is one of my first tries.  A rose from my Valentine's bouquet and a painted background.  I need to explore more interesting backgrounds. Some experiments are more successful than others

Image
I made paper this past week.  I incorporated some thread bits in it and really like the way that looks, top photo.  The bottom photo shows the web of paper I made.  Not too happy with that mess, that's for sure.  Possibly I can cut out small parts of it and make use of it that way.  I can imagine doing another mixed media bead journal and incorporating it into that. Art Journal Page

Image
The journal I am working in was created with papers that already had lots of marks on them.  These papers were used to catch overspray, practice writing, test colors, etc.  It makes for a rather busy background in my mind.  I generally prefer simple.  However, it is good for me to get out of my comfort zone.  It forces me to work differently and I appreciate that.  I always want to be growing and learning as an artist.  This page is not a masterpiece and I am okay with that.  I created, I learned, that is good enough. This page features the quote Where you go, go with all your heart.  Good advice.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I started this quilt last year.  I finished all four blocks last year but didn't get them put together until now.  I don't love the putting together process.  I love the embellishing process.  But I got it done and that feels good.  I am calling it Seasons for Pat as I inherited the blocks from her.  I treated them as a crazy quilt so as to add my own touch.  The centers are bead journal projects from last year and each one is meant to depict a season of the year. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
The beaded barb stitch is pictured here.  Definitely loved adding the beads.  I decided to use the good stuff!  I got out my crystals for this one.  I used all that I had in that color and size.  There is always more good stuff!  Thanks to Sharon B. at  pintangle.com  for the instructions.

Mucking about with inks

Image
I used some Dr. Martin's inks to 'dye' some cotton pads and cheese cloth.  I douse them liberally with water to get the inks to blend and mix together.  I love the surprises that I get.  So serendipitous!  I have already used the cotton pads in my bead journal project for this month.  I have so much fun getting inky. Journal prompt

Image
The prompt this week is the quote 'Be kind wherever possible.  It is always possible.'  I agree.  I know I have been in situations where I feel less than welcome or uncomfortable.  I tell myself, be kind, play nice and smile pretty.  It always works to get through those situations. In regards to the journal page, it turned out okay.  Nothing spectacular but journal pages don't have to be.  With this page I was pushing my boundaries.  I love working with medium colors and I feel I need to push myself to use lights and darks.  So that is what I did and possibly that is why I am not over the moon with it.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Finally getting started on my bead journal for February.  Not a bead in sight as yet.  I am working on a needle felted base and going for a mixed media approach on this one.  I really enjoy the mixed media feel.  Can't wait to start beading! Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B at  pintangle.com  revisits the Vandyke Stitch this week.  I remember doing it the last time around.  I liked doing the stitch but wasn't overly pleased with how mine turned out back then.  This time I gave it a go with a thicker thread and a little bigger spacing.  I like it a lot more this way.  I was glad to have my memory refreshed for this stitch.

Webs of Thread

Image
Top photo I stitched with gold and silver Kreinik threads of different thicknesses.  I rather like the web I created.  Bottom photo I used thread I found in the fly tying section of a sporting good store.  Love that it has variegated colors.  Aw, sparkle and thread make me so happy!  These two pieces may end up in one project somewhere down the line. Journal page

Image
This is about as good as this page is going to get.  I have pushed past the really ugly to get to mediocre.  At some point you just have to say enough.  The quote from  http://blog.luluart.com.au/2016/01/29/colour-me-positive-week-5/  is  "If your dreams don't scare you they aren't big enough".  I am not sure if I believe that or not.

Work in Progress

Ocean Floor is my bead journal for January.   I took a mixed media approach in hopes of achieving a lot of texture.   It is pretty busy but I like it. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ http://www.supermomnocape.com/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Thanks to Sharon B at  Pintangle  for the instructions for the Bonnet Stitch.  I think it is likely that I have done this stitch previously but it is not one that I use on a regular basis.  I really must start using it more as it isn't difficult and it is interesting.
