I heart Macro

Image
Technically, I guess this isn't really a macro shot.  Still it fits the flower theme.  I love the back lighting! I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

August Bead Journal

Image
Not so much a journal.  I decided to bead my jeans.  I think they will be fun to wear to the Bead Embroidery class I will be teaching at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery this fall.   https://www.kwag.ca/en/programs/AdultClasses.asp I had thought I would totally encrust the cuffs of these jeans but decided against that.  They are already quite heavy.  Pictured above you can see the front of one leg and the back of the other leg.  The front and back are basically the same on each leg. Adult Coloring

Image
I love coloring!  I know I am not the only one.  It has become quite the thing for adults to color.  It is relaxing and creative.  I have designed my own coloring pages and plan to offer them here on my blog.  Click on the top image and then print it.  The bottom image is the coloring I have done so far.  I would love to see what you do with it!

Trust me when I say that this is a good start.  It doesn't look like much in this photo.  The colors are really off but I managed to capture some of the shine that the transfer foil creates.  I have created a kaleidoscope in Kaleidoscope Kreator and printed it with my new color laser printer.  I cut out shapes of transfer foil and attached them to the print out.  Laser toner is actually extremely fine plastic so when heated with an iron it acts like a glue for the transfer foil.  This is the start of my bead journal for September.  I am just realizing I haven't posted my completed August beading.  Stay tuned for that. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  shows us the detached chain this week.  I learned it as a little girl as the lazy daisy.  Since I have known this stitch for so very long I feel like I should have been more inventive with it.  However, my plan is to do each of the stitches of TAST onto handmade paper and they will all be in the form of a circle.  At some point I will bind the individual pieces of paper into a book form.

More from my calla lily shoot.  The curves are so sensuous!  I feel like I should say that!  Too bad, I am not editing myself! I am linking with http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

More Progress

Image
I added a fun beaded seam treatment to my CQ block.  Valerie at Joyful Embellishments on Facebook is very clever and lists a new seam treatment 5 times a week!  I don't know how she does it!  I truly appreciate her creativity. Work in Progress Wednesday

There is nothing like a good road trip to get some stitching done!  I had about 2 hours of uninterrupted time to stitch.  I got a fair amount done!  I believe I can get this CQ block done before the end of August and thereby get myself back on track.  That always feels good. Take a Stitch Tuesday

So my idea for this round with TAST is to stitch on handmade paper.  It isn't the easiest thing that I have done but I think it is worth it.  I do like the results even though the stitches are far from even.  Since perfection is very elusive to me I tend to embrace the imperfections.  My motto is 'done is better than perfect'.  Above I stitched the Chevron stitched in a turquoise metallic thread.  Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the instructions.

I realize you can't tell that this is a calla lily but that is not important.  They are such a gorgeous flower to photograph! I am linking with http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/   http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

Joyfully stitching

Image
It feels good to get at least a bit of stitching done on this block.  It has been a busy week.  I have been working really hard on a proposal for an artist in residence program.  I dropped off the proposal today and am so glad to have it done.  I have done the chain stitch in triple as per Valerie's instruction on the Joyful Embellishments group.  I quite like the way it looks and will definitely use this again. My bead journal for August is a wearable.  I am encrusting the cuffs on my jeans with buttons, beads and lazy daisy http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/bead embroidery.  I have pictured both the front and the back.  I love these colors and wear them a lot.  I also wear jeans a lot so it should be worth all the work. Take a stitch Tuesday

Sharon is doing the Herringbone stitch this week.  I looked up the definition and it says this stitch must be perfectly regular.  Haha!  I don't do anything perfectly spaced and regular.  Here I stitched on handmade paper with a silver fleck in it.  I used Kreinik hologram thread to stitch.  It is unfortunate that the shine is so elusive to the camera. http://pintangle.com/2015/08/11/take-a-stitch-tuesday-herringbone-stitch/

Oh, this image just makes me happy!  It is so great when you get the image just right.  It feels good.   I am linking with http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

July crazy quilt block

Image
I think this experiment worked alright.  Stitching with paper can be a challenge but I think it was worth the effort.  I definitely prefer to stitch on  paper that has more of a fabric type feel to it, like some Japanese papers.  Still my constant curiousity leads me down different paths and enjoy it. Collage workshop

Image
A couple of weeks ago I took a collage workshop at the Wellington County Museum.  It was two days long and a lot of fun. It has been ages since I was the student and not the teacher in a workshop.  I am pleased with the piece even though I think it could use some work.  I am particularly pleased with the way the trunk turned out.  The teacher suggested one thing but I had to go with my heart.  So glad that I did!  This was a great workshop for using up some of my decorated papers.  Mind you I still have a large box full so it didn't make much of a dent.

I have picked out my fabrics for my August crazy quilt block.  A friend gave me the fairy fabric and a couple of others so I want to create a piece for her.  I am blessed to have such a beautiful friend in my life!  I am eager to get started on this even though I haven't quite finished my July block.  It is very close to being finished though. Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
The Cretan stitch is one that I have yet to master.  Part of the problem is I am not willing to draw lines on my work.  So this time around I thought I would try it with beads.  I thought the bead might help me keep my spacing even.  I guess it helped.  Somehow I managed to get the second to last bead askew and I am unable to correct it due a big nasty knot that happened in the thread.  I am only willing to fight with my embroidery for so long.  The mistake will have to stand. Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the beautiful instructions.

I am just realizing that I have done a very similar photo to this one.  Still, I can't resist the appeal of the sunflower.  The beautiful curve of the petals, the sunshine yellow,  the dark shadow all beg to photographed.
