I heart Macro

This poppy is for my sister.  She had to be away from her beloved garden and has missed most of the poppies blooming there.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

Kathy Shaw's online workshop

Image
Here are my supplies for the fabric dyeing workshop that Kathy Shaw at  http://www.shawkl.com/  is teaching.  Kathy is so very generous with her time and creativity.  I am excited to start getting messy with the dyes and paints!

Done

I have added a bit more stitching and feel like it works.  I have also attached it to a canvas.  I have a fusible backing on the silk to make it easier to stitch.  However, the fusible backing does make it a bit more difficult to wrap onto a canvas.  Still I persisted and think it worked out alright.  I love the hand stitching, I wonder if I should have added more. Work in Progress Wednesday a day late!

Image
It has been a busy week.  I know that the more I have to do the more I get done.  I also know that my art and creating is what doesn't get done when I am feeling overwhelmed and too busy.  This week I haven't managed to create much.  I have created a print and picked out some fabric for my June crazy quilt project.  I am not happy that it is almost the end of June and I am just getting started. Ah the blazing, hot colors of summer!  These withered petals have a lovely appeal to me. I am linking with http://allthevs.com/macro-monday-mixer-8/ http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

Stitching as mark making

Image
I think the stitching adds interest to this monoprint.  Truthfully the print isn't all that interesting without it!  The silk thread is a dream to use in stitching as is the silk fabric.  I am not sure if I will add more stitching or leave it as is. Okay, it is finally finished.  This is my crazy quilt block for May.  Yikes!  Running rather behind.  Better figure out what I am going to do for June! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

I bought a bouquet of flowers for myself for my birthday.  This green flower is what attracted me to the bunch.  So interesting.  No clue what kind of flower it is though. Sometimes I need a little push

Image
I love trying new things.  I love buying the supplies to try new things.  However, sometimes, those things end up sitting for longer than I care to mention.  I have a large Gelli plate that I finally used to print these pieces of silk.  I used Akua ink to print.  I was expecting it to take forever to dry but that has not been the case.  I printed on silk and like that the ink has not changed the hand of the silk.  The push to try this was a printmaking show coming in a few weeks.  My approach to printmaking is fast and loose so the chances of being selected by a purist juror is pretty slim.  Nevertheless, it got me experimenting with my 'new' supplies. My art bra 'Fruit Cups' is coming along.  I have added some fruit beads and other pieces of fruit that seem to be made of paper, possibly.  I would love to get this finished up in the next week or two as I have an idea for a second bra.  If anyone is interested in contributing and art bra to Her Cup Runneth Over fundraiser for HopeSpring Cancer Support please contact me through this blog. My bead journal for June

Image
This worked up pretty fast!  I am pleased with the way it turned out.  I can't seem to get the colors right in the photo though.  They are a bit more vibrant in actuality.

My life is pretty awesome.  I get to play with my macro lens and make beautiful art.  I count myself very blessed.  Top photo is obviously a flower.  Bottom image is an experiment.  I love the abstractedness of it.  I could totally see printing this on silk and stitching into it.  Yum! Journal pages

Image
I am still working away at the prompts from the Facebook group Fabulous and Free Art Journaling Challenge.  I feel these pages are not great art but that is the beauty of a journal, it doesn't have to contain great art.  The top spread uses markers and pattern paper as per one of the prompts.  It also has numbers featured in the journaling, another prompt.  Two for one in this spread.  The bottom spread features a tree.  The prompt was simply to incorporate a tree or a leaf on the journal page.  I love trees and leaves so that was an easy one.

The last seam!

Image
Not sure why it has taken me so long to get around to finishing this.  Well at least finishing the embellishing, the fun part.  I will still need to put a backing and border on it which is not terribly exciting but it sure feels good once done.  I used a seam treatment idea from Valerie Bothell on Facebook at Joyful Embellishments.  She is very clever and it is good for me to learn from her! Oh this looks a little dull. I created this image in Kaleidoscope Kreator and printed it onto canvas.  I plan to use it as my base for my bead journal project for June.  It will be all kinds of sparkly when I am done with it! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/
