Treasure hunt

Image
I adore treasure hunting at thrift stores.  Last week I found this gorgeous cookie jar?  I suppose it could also be for candy.  I am not sure which.  My Mom had one like this when I was a child so I snapped it up.  I really don't remember Mom keeping treats of any kind in it.  She did love pinwheel crystal though.  I think I might store some beads or old jewelry in it.  I am linking with  http://www.frommyfrontporchtoyours.com/ for Treasure Hunt Thursday.  It is so cool to see what everyone does with their lovely finds.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My August crazy quilt block is finished.  At least for now.  I am not totally in love with this block so I mayhave to add to it later.  Sometimes it is good for me to a piece away for a while and come back to it later with fresh eye.  I am linking with http://pintangle.com/ and http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a stitch Tuesday Chained cross stitch

Image
So many stitches to learn.  I am always glad to learn new things.  It is good for the brain.  For me this stitch was easy to learn as it is combining two stitches I already know.  Of course, my stitching is not as nice and neat as Sharon's at  http://pintangle.com/ .  Nevertheless I am happy with it.  It is quite likely I will use this stitch again.

The last step

Image
Here is my coffee filter kirigami shape stitched to some fabric.  I used numerous metallic threads and some multi colored beads.  The piece is about 12 x 12 inches.  I am really liking it.  I am debating on whether or not to add some more stitching to it.

Treasure Hunt Thursday

It has been a while since I have posted some of my thrifty finds.  These vintage linens make my heart sing.  They are so gorgeous!  I am actually considering dyeing some of them.  As much as I love whites, creams and beige I don't generally work with those colors.  I usually go for something more vibrant.  I am linking with From My Front Porch To Yours at   http://www.frommyfrontporchtoyours.com/    There are so many inspiring things to look at there!

Work in progress Wednesday

Image
I made some progress on this block in the past week.  It is a good thing to have these work in progress Wednesdays.  It really helps to keep me focused and moving forward.  I am not totally happy with this block so far.  Hopefully I will figure out what it needs in the next week so that I can get it finished.  I am linking with http://pintangle.com/ and http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a stitch Tuesday cloud filling stitch

Image
Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the instructions for this stitch. I have done this stitch once before this.  It is a good one and I am glad to try it again on this crazy quilt block.  I will definitely try to use it again in other blocks.  I used a ribbon floss for the filling part of the stitch. I think that a funky yarn might look really cool too.  I must give that a try.

The next step

Image
I ever so patiently waited for my coffee filter to dry.  Today I cut out this gorgeous kirigami shape also known as a snowflake.  I love the way it looks!  My next step will be to adhere it to some fabric and add some stitching and beads.  I am excited to get started on it.

Back to school sales make me so happy

I could absolutely not resist a new box on 100 Crayola markers.  All those glorious colors!  All that juicy ink!  I also couldn't resist that old stand by of laying down some color onto a coffee filter and then spraying it with water.  The results are yummy.  Coffee filters are such sturdy paper and I am anxious to stitch into it.  I just have to wait for it to dry.

Work in progress Wednesday

I have to say that I am pleased with the progress I have made on this block.  There is still a lot to do but I have two weeks to get it done so if I can stay I focused I should be able to do it! I am linking with http://pintangle.com/ and http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a stitch Tuesday Woven Cross stitch

Image
This is a simple stitch.  Since it is new to me I tried out a sample first.  I actually am happier with my sample as I used a thicker thread.  I think it looks better.  Still I added it to my August crazy quilt block.  It looks alright but I think I might add another stitch to that seam. Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the instructions.

The theme of my book is nature and these pages are obviously about the ocean.  I am super happy with the edges that I cut.  I used a french curbe to create the lines to cut.  I learned that from a mini workshop at  http://visualblessings.blogspot.ca/    She does beautiful and inspiring work.

Macro abrstract photography

Yesterday afternoon was so much fun for me.  My two delightful nieces came over to play!  I am blessed to have such lovely young women in my life!  They love photography like I do so we had a blast playing all afternoon.  The time flew by so fast. We floated food coloring and liquid watercolors on milk to make interesting abstract patterns.  We also painted on to glass plates to get some interesting shots.  This is going to require some more experimenting!

One week into August and this is all I have managed to get done on my block.  It isn't a great start but I have some ideas as to how to make it better.  I certainly hope to have it finished by the end of the month.  I just need to concentrate!  I am linking with http://pintangle.com/ and http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday Vandyke Stitch

Image
Here is my attempt at the Vandyke stitch.  Since I have never done this stitch before I decided to practice first, top picture.  It wasn't all that difficult so I added it to my August crazy quilt block.  You can see that I started get impatient with the stitch and my spacing grew larger.  I honestly don't mind that it doesn't look exactly as it is supposed to.  I have always been a rebel. Thanks to Sharon B for the instructions. http://pintangle.com/

I have incorporated some of my nature photographs in this book.  It is really hard/impoosible to get a picture of the page without glare.  Sorry about that.  The page is quite pretty without the glare!

Delightful days

Yesterday I had the pleasure to spend time with a lovely friend.  We went to see the Higher Ground exhibit done by the Connections fibre art group  http://www.connectionsfibreartists.com/  at the Guelph Civic Museum.  It was an enjoyable show. After the show we did a little shopping and then came back to my home to create.  We experimented with wrapping wire with fabric, thread, yarn and beads.  It was relaxing and fun to chatter as we created.  I think the wrapped wire has a lot of potential.  I can see myself stitching it on to a piece tightly coiled or in a loose spiral.

Oh my gosh!  When I came across the glitter tape pictured above I felt like a kid in a candy store!  How fun it is to get all these beautiful colors in one package.  You know I have to have all the colors!  I have already used in it my art journal, bottom picture.  Love it!
