A studen'ts creation

Image
Yesterday at my workshop one of my students, Karen, brought in this gorgeous book/journal she created.  It is fabulous!  She is so talented.  She created the book with the things she had made in the two previous workshops she had taken with me.  I LOVE seeing what students do!  It is so inspiring!

Announcing my October workshops

Image
Alcohol Ink Techniques      Saturday October 7, 10 am – noon We are going to explore a number of different ways to play with alcohol inks.   You will create a stack of material to use in your greeting cards, art journals or collage.   Alcohol ink is very staining; you may wish to bring gloves to protect your manicure!  Painted Paper with Painted Fusible Web     Friday October 12, 1pm-3pm   Or Saturday October 13, 10 am – noon This is a fun project with multiple layers of paint.   We will be experimenting with fusible web, Inktense pencils and acrylic paints.   This project can just as easily be done on fabric so if that is your preferred substrate let me know and I will have fabric available for you to use.   There are some really interesting collage possibilities with this workshop. Mixed Media Printmaking     Friday October 19, 1pm-3pm Or Saturday October 20, 10am – noon We will be creating two printing plates.   We will also explore some unexpected material

I really like this piece.  It is so much prettier in real life.  The camera just wasn't capturing the colors properly.  I hate when that happens.  I made rather large fabric bead, lower right, and needed to find a way to use it.  The bead reminded me of a cocoon.  I added a number of other experiments that coordinated with it.

WIP wednesday

Image
I have added some ribbon embroidery to this block.  I love ribbon embroidery!  I used the pistil stitch which I just learned how to do.  It always good to practice as then it really sticks in my head. Thanks to Sharon B at http://pintangle.com/   for organizing Work in Progress Wednesday as it is really helping me move forward.

TAST Knotted buttonhole stitch

Image
This is a new stitch for me.  However the buttonhole stitch is not new to me so I found this very easy to do.  I stitched into a circle shape.  I quite like the way it turned out and will definitely use this stitch now that I know how to do it.

Check out this class

http://somethingsublime.typepad.com/jewelry_works/the-alchemy-of-objects.html I am hoping to win a free spot in this class!  She does amazing work.  I am not really into to making jewelry but I could likely use some of the techniques in other areas.

WIP Wednesday

Image
I added the lace motif to the lower left.  I also added the crocheted flower and button in the upper right.  Plus I added some cream lace on the upper edge of the ribbon embroidery.  This block is definitely getting closer to done!

TAST Drizzle stitch

Image
This is a cast on stitch that Sharon B at http://pintangle.com/ introduced me to.  I really like this stitch!  I think I need to try more cast on stitches!  They are super cool!  I will definitely be adding more to this piece.

crazy quilt project for Sept.

Image
Yay!  It feels good to be done early.  I have even started on my block for October!  I am loving being a part of this project.  It is forcing me to get the work done and that feels good.  Deadlines really help me stay on top of things.

Totally honored

To have had one of my images chosen to be on this poster!  It is so cool that other people like my work!

Work in progress with Sharon B

Image
I showed this block last week.  I think that this is the last time I will show it as I believe it is done now.  I added some purple beads around the daisies and I added a tiny piece of purple velvet rick rack (lower right).  That is three blocks finished and six more to go.

TAST Pistil stitch

Image
It seems to me that I have done this stitch.  At any rate I have done a million french knots so I am pretty comfortable with this stitch.  I started by taking a few stitches and then realized that this stitch reminded me of fireworks.  That is what I tried to portray here.  I probably should have done it on a black ground though. Thanks to Sharon B at http://pintangle.com/ for the instructions.

I am happier with this now

Image
I added the yellow lace to help break up the expanse of beige silk.  It definitely is better.

crazy quilt project for August

Well, again I thought this was finished but realize that I don't like the beige silk.  It needs some embellishing.  hmm What to add?

Work In Progress

Image
Previously I had considered this block finished.  In reality I wasn't happy with it and was just tired of working on it.  This week I added the three mauve roses, top right.  I added some vintage handmade lace with rick rack, top left.   In the lower left I added the white lace heart and a handmade pansy I received in a swap.  Definitely some improvements.  I am still not completely happy with it but I am not giving up.

TAST catch up week

Image
TAST week 34 was the linked double chain stitch.  I actually did the stitch that week but forgot to post about it.  You can see my attempt in the top photo.  I don't think it is right.  Not understanding how to do a stitch really takes the joy out of it for me.  Plus if it is too difficult for me to get then I am just not interested in it.  I have enough responsibilities in my life and I feel like my stitching is a refuge.  It is not that I don't want to learn new things.  For sure I want to learn and grow.  I just don't want any frustration with it. TAST week 33 was the pekinese stitch.  I liked this stitch.  Mind you I used a fairly thick wool to make things easy for myself.  Also, I can not imagine myself doing tons of this stitch with delicate thread like it was intended.  For details of Take a Stitch Tuesday check out  the blog that Sharon has at  http://pintangle.com/

Yet more of my book

Image
The page on the left I kept pretty simple.  I really wanted the right side to be the focus.  The beautiful sheer gloves my Mom wore on her wedding day.  Mom has always had great taste in dressing.  She is 82 and does not dress like an old lady.  I love that about her.  I found the delicate hanky at a thrift store.  The embroidered Mother and flowers were perfect for this!  It only cost  $0.25 so I didn't feel bad about cutting it up.

The wooden dress form seemed perfect for this book.  It is a bit hard to see in the photo.   It is on the right hand side.  I am just having fun playing with this book!
