trying something new

I hope this works.  I made this slide show for my photography club.  Unfortunately we couldn't get it to work on any of the computers at the club.  So I don't know if this will work on my blog.  It does work properly on my computer so we can hope.

Work in progress Wednesday

Image
I am really glad to be participating in the work in progress Wednesday at http://www.pintangle.com/    I know for certain that I would not have worked on this quilt in the last week had I not been participating.  Having a deadline really helps me.  I added this plated or folded ribbon to the block.  I wish I would have been able to add more but one thing is better than nothing.  It is a step in the right direction.

TAST Palestrina Stitch

Okay, I have to say that I struggled with this one.  My first attempt is the top row in the top picture.  I just wasn't getting it, clearly.  So, I looked at another set of instructions.  Sometimes I need things explained in a different way.  The green stitching, the bottom row of the top picture shows that I finally did get.  I was then brave enough to add it to a crazy quilt block, bottom picture. Thanks to Sharon B at http://www.pintangle.com/ for hosting this great learning adventure.

I find art supplies everywhere

Image
I was in Bowrings on the weekend.  It is a home dec store.  I am still looking for the perfect mirror for my newly renovated bathroom.  Sigh.  I didn't get a mirror but I did find these two place mats.  Neither of which will be used for place mats.  The fancy floral one will make a nice page in a romantic fabric book I am thinking about making.  The green place mat has great texture and I will use it for rubbings and for sun printing.

The creative energy was flying

As was the fun and fibres.  Yesterday I welcomed some very creative women into my home.  It was my first in home studio art workshop.  For me it was a resounding success.  I believe my students felt the same as they were all interested in returning for future workshops!  Everyone created two fibre fusion pieces.  I can't wait to see what they do with them!

June bead journal

Well, here is the beading.  I thought a nice curving line would add interest.

This is the photo

This photo of pealing paint is the base for my bead journal project for June.  I love this image.  It is definitely one of my favorites out of the hundreds that I took at the junk yard.  Such fun.  Tomorrow I will show the beading I did.

Work in progress

I can't believe that I have joined something else!  But it really does help me to get things done.  Sharon at http://pintangle.com is hosting Work in Progress Wednesday.  I really need the push to get my crazy quilt finished.  I have been working on it for more years than I care to admit!  It really is getting close to finished though.  This week I added the trim to this piece.

TAST Cable Chain Stitch

Image
Sharon at http://pintangle.com/ has been introducing me to many new stitches this year.  That is a good thing!  I don't always grasp them right away but generally I persist until I get it.  This one came fairly quick.  I am always grateful when that happens.  I stitched a sample on a scrap of fabric that I had previously experimented on, top photo.  If I keep adding stitches to that it could end up looking kind of interesting.  Once I felt confident in doing the stitch I added it to the crazy quilt block, bottom photo.

Crazy quilt project for June

I am loving the color combination.  Turquoise, aqua with tans and beige are quickly becoming a favorite of mine, at least for the moment.  I am not super happy with this block so I may add more to it at some point but not just now.  I have so many pieces to get finished as there are a lot of shows to enter in the next few months.  Fun!  It is good to have deadlines!

more from my challenge to the Grand Guild

Image
I absolutely love how everyone can start out with the same basic materials (some fibres that I provided) and create something totally unique.  Kate created three pieces which are the top two pictures.  So bright and cheerful!  Sue created a sweet knitted bag.  So clever!  I am honored and thrilled to be in a group of wildly talented women!  Thanks to everyone who took part in the challenge.

Trying to catch up

Here is my May Crazy Quilt project.  It is a bit late but oh well.  It is done and that is the important part.  June is well on the way so hopefully it will be done before the month ends!

TAST buttonhole wheel

Oh I love this stitch!  I have only done it once before and I wasn't very successful that time.  This time with the skilled instructions from Sharon at http://pintangle.com/ I was more successful.  I guess I should have chosen a contrasting color of thread to make it easier to see.

Am I the only one who gets excited about garbage?

Check out all these wonderful gears!  I love them!  I am excited to use them to sunprint on fabric!  They are the coolest.  One of my son's friends works in a bike shop and got these for me.  They just throw them away!

Queen Street shopping in Toronto

Image
Check out some of the gorgeous fabric I found in Toronto.  Shopping on Queen Street is so much fun. More fun when I do it with my sister mind you!  Last year when she and I were there I commented that it would be really cool to be able to purchase the samples they had hanging in front of some of the fabrics.  Well, this past week what did I find?  Some of those small sample packs were for sale!  So cool!  The sparkly lace in particular made me happy!  I don't use large amounts of fabrics in most of my art pieces so this was just perfect for me!

Corning Glass Museum

Image
My dear hubby took me away for a few days for my 50th birthday.  A little shopping therapy goes a long way to soothe.  Really I don't mind turning 50.  I feel fabulous! We stopped at the Corning Glass Museum.  I wasn't sure what to expect.  Hubby was the one that came up with the brilliant idea.  I was a little concerned that they were only going to have cookware!  Well, no worries.  The first piece we came across was done by Dale Chihuly, top picture.  Well, I adore Chihuly's work so that was a thrill for me.  We also work by Tiffany, bottom picture.  So masterful!  The whole exhibit was delightful to see! I love that inspiration can come from anywhere.  I have a piece that I need to finish and I have been wondering how to finish it.  One layered piece caught my attention.  It reminded me a little of some work done by Picasso.  Anyway, I am thinking that I might be able to layer my piece in a similar fashion.  Maybe, some glass pieces will start showing up in my w
