fabric journal pages

Image
Sorry for not posting for so long!  Don't you just hate when life gets in the way of art and blogging! I have been taking an art journal workshop with Sandra Spagnuolo.  I can't find her web site but I am pretty sure she has one.  Above is a piece of fabric that I painted and then did a rubbing to get the wings.  On the back of the fabric I adhered some painted paper towel.  I love the texture that I got with the paper towel.  You can see it in the top picture, the right hand side.  The pages are complete yet but I think I have a really good start.

oh the colors!

Image
Need I say anything?  The colors are magnificent!  I am trying to get a lot of photos together so that I can make an iphoto book.  I don't own a Mac but my son does and he is kindly letting me use to make the book.

fun trims

Image
A while ago a friend took me shopping at a local Indian store.  On one side there were groceries (yummy simosas) on the other side of the store were fabrics, trims and clothing.  We found a huge bag of trims for practically nothing.  They were gorgeous and I figured I could use them in my crazy quilting.  I haven't done that yet but still plan to.  I did however use some of the pretty trim on one of my journal pages.  Cool idea, eh?

great finds!

Image
I seem to be blessed with the ability to find great deals!  I love it.  I found this massive amount of silk cocoons at a thrift store.  Can you believe it only cost me three dollars!  I am going to have to do some research to find ways to use these cocoons!  If you have any great ideas please feel free to let me know.

another great workshop

Image
You know you've attended a good workshop when you come home and your head is buzzing with more ideas that you just can't wait to try.  Sandra is an energetic and fun teacher.  I am really glad to be taking a total of five workshops with her and my friends!  What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Yesterday we added more layers to our journal pages. \She also showed how she added beads to the edges of her journal pages.  I love beads so I just had to do that.  I also added some gorgeous leaf sequins. to one edge. I can't wait to see what we learn next week!

glow sticks photography

Aren't the colors gorgeous!!  I photographed the whole alphabet.  No surprise I'm not sure what I will do with those photos.  I trust an idea will come to me though.

fun photography

My son bought these really cool light sticks.  Being the good son that he is he let make take some photos of them.  I think they are gorgeous.  It was tempting to cut open the sticks and paint with the glowing fluid.  mmm

bead journal project for July

Image
I have stitched together a fabric journal with six pages.  I plan to make the rest of my bead journal pages to fit into this book.  All the fabrics in the journal are my own, in that I painted or dyed them.  This month is used some silk paper that I created as the base for my beading.  Some of the beading is a bit tough to see so you will have to click on the picture to enlarge it.

what makes some workshops better than others?

Image
I enjoyed myself immensely at the workshop I took yesterday.  Sandra is just the kind of teacher I find to be fun and free and I really enjoyed learning from her.  She had many papers and fabrics for us to paint/print onto.  She had many tools and recycled objects to use as well.  There was definitely a spirit of exploration and adventure in the class.   Fun fun fun. The top picture is some of my friend's work.  The middle picture is some of the tools we used to make prints.  The bottom picture is the work that I produced. I'm really looking forward to the next workshop with Sandra.   We will be adding layers and embellishments to the papers and fabrics that we created yesterday.  Eventually it will all be made into an art journal.

nail polish experiments

Image
Playing and experimenting what could be better.  I was reading about using nail polish on metal so I embossed some metal and painted it with polish.  You can see that in the last picture. I also tried it on page protectors.  I then cut up the colored page protectors and rolled into beads.  The bottom pink/purple bead I added some silver threads while the nail polish was still wet.  I think all the fun colors available now are just great!

heart shaped cloud photos

Image
I was canoeing with my husband and son Jeremy the other day.  It was lovely.  I got to ride in the middle like Cleopatra!  While I relaxed and enjoyed the ride I checked out the clouds.  I think they look like hearts don`t you.

dyed paper

Image
I still don't have my fabric finished but here is some paper that I dyed the other day.  I love the krinkles and wrinkles.  It will be interesting to use this paper.  At this point I'm not sure what I will use it for though.  Maybe, I'll put it in a Remains of the Day journal.  I was watching some videos on youtube today of Remains of the Day journals, they are quite inspiring.

summer time and the art gets messy

Image
Yesterday at an art gathering Jackson Pollock`s art was mentioned.  I`m not really a fan of his work but it did get me thinking.  hmmm  My husband always gets worried when I get that look on my face that says I`m thinking about something.   At times it can be dangerous!  I got thinking about some dyes I have in the refrigerator in the basement.  I really do want to use them up and this is the time of year to do it. So I spread out an old shower curtain on our newly landscaped backyard.  I put down some fabric on top of the drop sheet.  I went up a story to our deck and started dropping the dyes onto the fabric.  You`ll have to wait a bit for the results as the fabric is batching. Of course the dyes spread to the rocks and my husband noticed as soon as he got home.  He may have been mildly ticked off but mostly he was amused by my hands!  Will I ever learn to put gloves on!!
