more spring blooms

Image
I haven't had a lot of time for making art this past month.  But I did have some time to get outside with my camera.

glorious color

I am trying to think of how I can incorporate my flower photos into a quilt.  I don't have any particularly good ideas at the moment.  I'm sure something will come to me though.  Until I do think of something I will just enjoy the beauty of the flowers.

spring flowers again

I am really enjoying my camera.  I spent some blissful time at Rockway Gardens yesterday.  The spring blooms are fantastic for photographing right now.

my son is a budding book binder

Image
This book is a Necronomicon.  Jeremy made this book as a prop for a movie he and his friends are going to make.  I think he did a fantastic job.  I gave him a few tips but he did all the work himself.  The cover is made with latex that he molded into a face on a cardboard base.  Genius!  The paper is regular copy paper but he aged it with coffee.

I have a Nikon D80 and a 105 mm auto micro lens by Nikon.  It is a freaking fantastic lens.  It should be it cost more than the camera!   Actually, a lot of good lenses cost more than a camera.  At any rate, I love this lens.  It does fantastic close up shots as seen above.  I really want to start using my photos in my fabric art.  I guess start isn't the right word.  I have done this a bit.  I want to do it more.

what to do with a gel pen that isn't working

Image
You can pull the pen completely apart and blow out the gel.  Pictured above is blue gel pen ink spread and smooshed.  I then did the bubble printing thing over the gel pen ink.  Below I used slide mounts to isolate small areas that are interesting.  I think it would be good to add the three small pieces to a journal page.

another good mail day!

I love getting presents in the mail!  Actually, I just love getting presents! I won this book on Fibre Arts/mixed media ning.  Very cool.  I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it looks good.

bead journal project for April

Image
My sweet sister in law gave me the starfish.  She told me she\s excited to see what I create with it.  I love the under the sea theme so it was fun for me to create this piece.  I started with white silk that I then painted and added rubbings.  I also did some needle felting and stitching.  Finally I added some beads.

gotta get it

My friend Nancy has let me borrow her book 'Arteffects' by Jean Drysdale Green.  I am definitely ordering this book.  It is very comprehensive and has many techniques that are new to me.  The book was written 17 years ago but it is still worth purchasing.

mica paper

How pretty is this paper!  I just couldn't resist buying this paper last week.  I don't know what I am going to use it for but that doesn't matter.

good mail

I love getting fun things in the mail!  Part one of my prizes came.  Take a look at all the cool goodies!  I can't wait to play with them!  I'm looking forward to receiving the book from C&T Publishing.

art play day with my sister and friends

Image
We laughed, we played, we had fun!  It is so good to get together with like minded artists.  I am truly blessed to have such a good group of friends with which to play! Mary Lynn brought bubbles.  We printed them on paper and it looks great.  Nancy got out the workable fixative and chalk pastels to experiment with them.  It was pretty stinky and I would recommend doing that technique outside.  Still it was fun and I will try this again when I can be outside.

Taking a break

Hi All My sister is here visiting so I just don't have time to keep up with my blog this week.  Hopefully, I'll be back at it next week! Have a sparkly day!

I'm a winner

Image
This is the journal page that I entered into the challenge at Fibre Art Mixed Media ning for March.  The challenge was to use found objects in a piece and upload a photo of it to the Flickr group.  The found objects could come from your stash which was cool.  I had been cleaning out my studio (always an on going process) and found all these hearts so I added them to the journal page.  The drawing was a random draw.  Clearly I would not have won for a great journal page!  I will look forward to receiving my prize in the mail!  Fun!
