art supplies

Image
When I don't have time to make art I love shopping for art supplies.  A Curry's Art Supply store opened in town last month.  I finally got there today.  It is so nice to finally have a good art store in town.  I bought some interference blue ink, but I will have to go back for all the colors!

pop up journal page

If you have read my blog for very long you know that  I love pop ups.  I can't help myself, I'm just a big kid at heart.  I always look for ways to add fun to my art.

more silk

Image
I love my life!  I spent the afternoon playing with silk.  Does it get any better than that?   I think not!  These are a few of the silk pieces that I painted.  I think they are absolutely yummy.  I'm not sure what I will do with them just yet but who cares.  I created something beautiful and I am happy about it.

dupioni silk

Image
Hey crazy quilt friends, I have a question for you.  I have bought some fabric and have way too much of the dupioni silk pictured above.  Each grouping has five colors.  Each color measures 21 inches by 22 inches.  That's slightly bigger than a traditional quilter's fat quarter.  Is twenty dollars a fair price to ask for one set of five pieces?

a sparkly day

Image
I did not have time for art today but it was a good day nonetheless.  The best part was my dear friend Darlene came for a visit.  We don't get together as often as I would like.  She shared some fabric from her stash with me.  Look at those sparkly stars!  Doesn\t that just make you happy. Plus it was a good mail day.  Look at the beautiful Kreinik threads that arrived!  I can't wait to stitch with them. Life is good!

paper quilt

I love it when I have all the right things!  This is one of those times where everything came together quick and easy.  I am a little disappointed with the picture of it though.  The colors go together much nicer in real life.  I did a zigzag stitch with a beautiful metallic thread that has all the right colors.  I'm just not sure what to do with this now that it is done.  Should it be a book cover or a journal page?

flag book at least I think that is what they are called

Image
I love this little book.  I've wanted to make a flag book for a while.  Yesterday the idea hit me just how I should do it.  I picked out a rainbow of colors of card stock.  I painted one side with interference paint that matched the color.  The other side I glittered.  Believe me when I say I have glitter all over the the place.  Today I cut and glued the flags to the accordion spine.   It just makes me happy to look at it!

Happy Valentines

Image
This is a small paper  bag book I created for Valentines Day.  It was fun to use some of things that I have received in swaps.  These things have sat in drawers for years so it is good to finally use them.

pretty romantic card

Image
I think this a sweet romantic card. I know my friend will like it.  She reads Victoria magazine and I think this looks like it would fit with that magazine.  I love old fashioned Victorian type things as well.  It was fun to make.  It also fits the theme this week at Mixed Media Mondays. http://mixedmediamonday.wordpress.com/

origamic architecture

Image
This is really a complicated pop up.  I got the pattern for it here http://members.shaw.ca/woa/newhome.htm It's a really cool site.  I wish I had the patience to do more of these.  They are so cool! The Japan Foundation in Toronto is having a show about origamic architecture.  I would love to go to it. http://www.jftor.org/whatson/OrigamicArchitecture.php

Bead Journal project for February

Image
It is highly unlikely that I will ever have my bead journal page done this early in the month ever again.  I'm pleased with this tag.  I joined the bead journal project because of all the wonderful beading that was done in previous years. There are some very talented stitchers out there.  I am trying really hard to not compare myself to them.  Having fun and learning is more important than comparing.

transfer foil journal page

Image
I really like the way this page turned out.  I painted it and then stamped a snowflake at the top of the page.  It was stamped with glue and then I applied transfer foil.  I love the transfer foil but it seemed too shiny for the page so I applied a light wash of paint over it.  I really like the way it knocked back the shine but didn't obliterate it. Here's a close up. Have sparkly day!

more slide mount art

Image
Again, these were a lot of fun to do.  I did a small zentangle in the bottom right slide.  I needed a bigger slide mount to fit the zentangle, it was a good thing that I had one.  I LOVE when I have just the right thing in my stash!  It is very satisfying to me.

Slide mount art

I'm studying the book Artist Journals & Sketchbooks with the Artist of the Round Table Yahoo group.  I'm really enjoying it.  These slide mounts are my latest creations.  It's a lot of fun going through my stash and finding small bits and pieces that will fit.  I don't know if I will use these in my journals or not.  I don't tend to add this sort of thing to my journal but maybe that will change.
